All three of Gaggero’s Aegean Airlines Pro-Am victories have been at Costa Navarino and it was his eight-under par 63 first round at the Dunes Course that set him in good stead for the week. A second round two-under 69 at the Bay Course left him three ahead of the chasing pack, but a solid level-par 71 back on the Dunes was just enough to take the winner’s cheque for €7,000.
Second place fell to PGA of Great Britain & Ireland Professional, Liam Bond, who finished just behind Gaggero for the second year in a row with a nine-under par 204 total. Bond’s first round 68 and second round 70 kept him in the game for the first two rounds but a final 66 and low round of the day on the Dunes course was enough to advance him to second and a cheque for €5,000.
Third and fourth place went to Akim Hassan (68+67+72=207; -6) and Zeke Martinez (67+69+72=208; -5) respectively. Both these PGA of Italy players remained in contention throughout the week supporting fellow countryman Gaggero at the top but couldn’t quite advance enough in the final round allowing Bond to move to second.
Gaggero also completed a tournament double leading his team of Emanuel Georgoudis, Orlando Grondona and Marco Villa to victory with a 96 point first round and an 86 second round in the Team Pro-Am competition to finish on 182 points (-38).
Second place in the Team Pro-Am went to Giles Johnson (PGA of Great Britain & Ireland) and his amateurs, Marina Vasylyeva, Maria Yakovleva Pavel Yakovlev, with a -37 total of 181 points (85+96 points).
Three teams tied for third place – Team Heard, Team Shippey, and Team Martinez, however third place alone went on countback to Danny Heard (PGA of Great Britain & Ireland) and amateurs David Hallows, Matthias Geissler and David Topping with a two round -32 total of 176 (88 + 88).
