Teeing of his second round of the 36-hole event with a three-stroke lead from a first-round 66 he understandably outstripped all opposition with the equivalent of a birdie-par-birdie-par sequence throughout the 18 holes.

Behind him stretched a parade of European pros attempting to make a fight of it. But all the time he relentlessly pressed on to hand in a card in that showed him to be nine ahead of the runner-up, the 2007 winner Henrik Engdahl who returned two 69s... a challenging score in most competitions.

PGA of Greece official George Diakou kept the local flag flying by adding a two-under 70 to his opening 69 for a satisfying third place on home soil, while last year's winner, Fredrik Mansson was sixth on three under.

Scandinavian contestants, in particular, have taken enthusiastically to this springtime opportunity to enjoy a spot of competition in scenically superb surrounds in the sunny south after wintering in northern European climes.

While Welshman Liam Bond won the inaugural event in 2006 it was two Swedes, Henrik Engdahl (2007) and Fredrik Mansson (2008) who then took over the winners' spot. These have now been joined in a Scandinavian treble by the emergence of the amazing Nilbrink.

The Norwegian newcomer to The PGAs of Europe roll of honour stole the show as it moved from the Greek islands to the mainland, and the country's No.1 resort located on the beautiful Halkidiki Peninsula.
